For example, if I expect myself to be perfect at everything, I’m going to feel pretty down when things don’t go as planned. The same goes for expecting too much from others; it’s not fair to them or to me. So, I try to remember that it’s okay not to nail everything on the first try and that people aren’t mind-readers or superheroes.

Here’s a simple example: I used to get upset if a friend couldn’t hang out because I expected them to always be available. But then I realized everyone has their own life and responsibilities. By understanding this and not expecting them to always be free, I saved myself a lot of unnecessary stress. Now, I’m much happier, and our friendship is stronger because the pressure’s off. It’s all about keeping my expectations in check.

It’s important to keep expectations situation-specific.
